The Nashville String Kings My music career began at the age of nine in the small southern town of Fayetteville, Tennessee. My first instrument was the piano.  I soon was playing ballads and rag time music by ear instead of using sheet music.  Within a couple of years I was competing in talent shows in the Middle Tennessee area, and had created a trio with my two cousins called "The Elk River Boys". We had a great time playing around the Lincoln County area at various Saturday night community gatherings called "Hoot-N-Nannies".  Our repertoire consisted mostly of southern standards, folk, bluegrass, and gospel music.
Around the age of 12, I became interested in the guitar.  I spent hours practicing and within a couple of years, I entered into the world of Pop and Rock and Roll, never returning to the piano as my instrument of choice. During this time period, I began playing acoustic bass which I still enjoy playing today.  At 14, some fellow musicians and myself formed a band called "The Arrangements".  Although very young, we took our music business serious. We played professionally for various occasions that were aired on Nashville's WSM T.V. Screen Audition Show in 1968.  At one time the band included a three piece horn section, and three female singers.

After high school I went on to college at MTSU receiving a degree in Recording Industry Management. I spent some time in the mid 80's working on Nashville's music row but better opportunities were to be had in construction material sales, so I left the row. Also during the mid 80's I worked as a lead guitarist in three different bands playing country, pop, and rock music. In the late 80's, my taste started to drift toward bluegrass where I had the good fortune of meeting some of the dear friends and associates I work with today.
